OH YEAH?!

If like me, you obsess over new music and spend a good 90% of all internet time reading music forums, webzines, review sites you tend to pick up on things from your past that you push to one side only to be reminded of the great times you had watching bands, seeing certain people, etc.

I recently stubled across this blogsite, paying particular attention to the biography of the band Wreck of the Old 98. I used to fumble around in an Emo/Hardcore band a few years ago and we recorded a split 7" these guys. I remember both styles of music being from different ends of the musical scale but the similarities were there too...both bands avid supporters of local DIY music scenes, shared the same friends, often played the same shows together, happily drank together discussing each others gigs and bands we'd both seen.

Definatly something I do and don't miss in equal quantities...

DONE DONE DONE

Exams are out the way finally, so i'm going to get on with some stuff...I recently stole Virtual DJ 5 from my younger brother - i've decided i'm going to try and run the outputs from Ableton in the 2 decks on Virtual DJ so I can use the DJM600 style samplers within the software. Something that Ableton lacks is on the fly sampling without ruining the flow of audio...anyways, enough geeking, couple of great video's that i've enjoyed watching lately.

This song helped pull me through some exam stress last week, really uplifting and great fun...there's something about the leftfield hip-hopisms of the Anticon movement that i love. It shares so much with stuff i've been listening to lately and it's great seeing a band like Why? really pushing things forward and trying to hit the big time with quirky-poppy-indie-rock-hop tunes...

This is a somewhat pointless video to a great song on a great record which caught me off guard. I remember being hopelessly in love with this band 5 years ago or so, then they turned shit but now they've taken yet another U-turn and are trying to re-invent themselves as a Sigor Ros-cum-Envy type post-rock-hardcore erm, thing. I'm still not sold on the idea but this video is a great great piece of work and i do actually like this song.

SMILE

9 Things that have made me smile recently:

1 - Knowing All Star FC (AC Milan) and their entourage of at last 50 will all be packed into Fratton park's tiny changing rooms tonight, like stinky sardines.

2 - 2.5% worth of VAT savings passed on to the public isn't really going to stimulate anything other than people's knowledge of percentages.

3 - Lucas album's nearly done and we're both looking back and laughing at the recording stories we've inherited, including the argument over kick drum frequencies.

4 - Orange's customer service, so bad it's comical!

5 - Certain people...you know who you are.

6 - Finishing the mixes on new LIGHTS songs.

7 - Sarcastic Gamer podcasts...even though I don't really play video games.

8 - The new K-the-I??? record

9 - Knowing exams will be over in 2 weeks.

A Chaotic life requires a huge smile

The impending life changes have happened, time to MTFU and face up to responsibilities and accept the doom of piss poor bank account balances in one of the worst financial crisis' this country has ever seen...it's great being young, single and tied down to thing's you never fully planned for. But anyway, since my last post the world has pretty much seen history being made - Barack Obama is now president, the world economy is fucked due largely to greed (debatable)and Tottenham Hotspur keep making me feel sick confirming my allergy to them still exists, possibly worse than ever!

Anyways, my year long Lucas project is finally getting there - i heard some rough cuts of the now, Album and to say it put a huge smile on my face is a gross understatement. It's been stressful, joyful, nearly led to huge rock 'n' roll falling outs between members (yes, all 2 of us) but the process has been great, approaching each song as a single entity...i forgot how much effort we put into each song, the results have totally been worth it though.

As for LIGHTS - I didn't win the Audion remix contest but the actual winner deserved it out-right. I had some great feedback from my work which has lead to other things and i'm glad to say, i've actually finished the mix on a few new tracks.
